Euro pallets: the 1200 x 800 footprint
1200 x 800mm is the footprint used across European distribution and increasingly inside UK operations receiving continental inbound stock. We supply it as genuine EPAL and as standard 1200x800 build — tell us which one you need.
Sizes, types and typical uses
A 1200 x 800mm footprint is not automatically an EPAL pallet: EPAL is a controlled specification operated under its own licensing and marking regime, and plenty of sound, well-built pallets share the footprint without being part of that system. Where a contract or customer names EPAL specifically, we supply pallets with legible EPAL marks. Where the footprint alone is what you need — because it suits the racking, trailer or inbound flow — a standard 1200x800 build is usually more available and better value.
Typical uses include continental inbound goods, export to the EU, and any UK operation standardised on the smaller footprint for racking or trailer fill.
Pooled pallets
A significant proportion of 1200 x 800 stock in the UK circulates inside pooling or exchange schemes such as CHEP, LPR and IPP. Pooled pallets remain the property of their operator regardless of who holds them, and cannot be bought, sold or supplied on as ordinary stock. If pallets on your site carry a pooling operator's branding, that is a conversation with the operator.
Export
A 1200 x 800 footprint says nothing about plant-health treatment. Whether an ISPM15 mark is needed depends on the destination, not on the pallet's size or grade — see our export pallets page for what to check.
Delivery
Same-day delivery may be available for orders placed before 10am, subject to stock, vehicle availability, order size and destination — confirmed on the call. Next-day and planned delivery are also available.

Typical specification
- Footprint
- 1200 × 800 mm (width × length)
- Entry
- Four-way on standard block builds
- Construction
- Block pallet
- Marking
- EPAL only where the pallet carries legible EPAL marks
- Condition
- New or used
- Treatment and marking
- Decided by the destination, not by the footprint
Load capacity, availability and price are confirmed against the physical stock when we quote. Pooled pallets remain their operator's property and are not supplied as stock.
Have this ready for a quote
- EPAL specifically, or the 1200x800 footprint only.
- Quantity, and one-off, bulk or recurring order.
- Whether any stock on site is pooled operator property.
- Racking, handling and stacking method.
- Whether export use is in scope, and to which destination.
- Delivery site and timing.
| Question | What answers it |
|---|---|
| Is it 1200 × 800? | A measurement taken from the pallet. |
| Is it genuinely EPAL? | Visible, legible EPAL marks on the pallet. |
| Is it plant-health marked? | A legible ISPM15 mark, where the export route requires one. |
| Is it yours to move? | Absence of pooling operator branding. |
What the load figures mean
- Tare weight
- The mass of the empty pallet itself, before anything is put on it. It matters for vehicle payload, air freight and weighbridge figures, not for how much the pallet can carry.
- Static load
- The maximum load the pallet is rated to hold while standing still on a solid, level surface — the pallet fully supported underneath.
- Dynamic load
- The maximum load the pallet is rated to carry while it is being handled or moved, for example on forks or a pallet truck.
- Racking load
- The maximum load the pallet is rated to hold while supported only at its edges or on beams. It often differs from static and dynamic capacity and applies only in the exact rack or support configuration stated by the manufacturer.
Ratings depend on the exact construction, how the load is distributed, how the pallet is supported, its condition and the manufacturer. A rating can never be inferred from footprint alone: two 1200 × 800 mm pallets can behave completely differently. Figures below are the named manufacturer's or standard's own published values for that exact model, reproduced for reference.
Authentic EPAL Euro pallet — EPAL reference specification
EPAL Euro pallet (EPAL 1)
- Dimensions
- 1200 × 800 × 144 mm
- Tare weight
- Approximately 25 kg
- Stacked-bottom-pallet condition
- When laden pallets are stacked on a solid, even surface, the bottom pallet may carry a total maximum of 5,500 kg
- Safe working load
- 1,500 kg
- Racking figure/source status
- EPAL does not publish a single generic racking figure for the Euro pallet — confirm the rack configuration at quote
These are EPAL's published figures for the authentic EPAL Euro pallet only. A pallet measuring 1200 × 800 mm is not automatically an EPAL Euro pallet and does not automatically carry these ratings. Stacking figures assume laden pallets stacked on a solid, even surface. Availability and the specification actually supplied are confirmed at quote.

Confirm before we can quote a load figure
- Tare weight limit, where vehicle payload or air freight is tight.
- Whether you need a static, dynamic or racking figure — they are different numbers.
- Evenly distributed load or point load, and the footprint of the load on the deck.
- Support configuration: floor, beams, edge-supported racking, automation or conveyor.
- Condition required — new, repaired or used — and how many trips it must survive.
- Quantity, whether it repeats, and the delivery timing you need.
