Reconditioned pallets: repaired, not just second-hand
A reconditioned pallet has been through a repair process — damaged boards, blocks or bearers replaced — before it goes back out. That is a different product from raw used stock taken straight off a load, and it behaves differently on a line. This page explains what the repair covers and what to agree before you order.

Reconditioning is a repair process, not a cosmetic one. The point is to return the pallet to a state where it carries and handles predictably.

| Blocks | Crushed corners from side impact or over-stacking. | The block is cut out and replaced, restoring entry height. |

Choosing
Reconditioned, used or new?
The right answer depends on how consistent your handling needs to be, not on price alone.

Before you order
Agree these five things in writing
Reconditioned stock is where vague specifications cause the most trouble, because 'repaired' means different things to different suppliers.
Specify with your order
- Footprint and entry type — two-way or four-way, and the handling equipment in use.
- Which components may be replacement timber and which must be original.
- Whether mixed board widths or colours are acceptable on the top deck.
- Whether the load will be racked, stacked or conveyed, and to what height.
- Whether the goods leave the country, which brings heat treatment into scope.
Reconditioned pallets are frequently a better fit than new for internal movements, yard work, seasonal peaks and one-way despatch where the pallet is not coming back. They are usually the wrong choice where an automated line needs dimensional repeatability to the millimetre.
If the consignment is going abroad, treatment and marking are a separate question from condition. A repaired pallet used for export needs the correct ISPM15 treatment and marking for the components it now contains — see export pallets.
