New pallets: when a newly built pallet earns its cost
A new pallet is built to a stated specification, so every unit in the load is the same. That repeatability is what you are paying for — and it matters far more on an automated line or a customer-facing despatch than it does on an internal yard movement.
When new is the right choice
Four situations where new usually wins
New is not automatically better. It is better in specific circumstances, and a waste of budget outside them.

What to state when you order new
A new pallet is built to your brief. The more of the brief you can settle up front, the closer the delivered pallet is to the one you pictured.
Include in your enquiry
- Footprint — UK 1200 × 1000, 1200 × 800 or a bespoke size.
- Entry: two-way or four-way, and the trucks and handling in use.
- Whether the pallet is racked, block-stacked or conveyed, and how high.
- The load itself: weight, dimensions, overhang and how it sits on the deck.
- Destination — a consignment leaving the country brings treatment into scope.
- Quantity, frequency and the delivery postcode.
Where a standard footprint will not carry the product, a purpose-built pallet is often the cheaper answer in the end — see bespoke pallets. Where the load is ordinary and the pallet is not coming back, graded used or reconditioned stock usually does the same job for less.
The footprint on its own never settles a specification. A 1200 × 800 pallet is not an EPAL pallet by virtue of its size, and no dimension implies a load rating. Our pallet specifications guide sets out the five attributes worth agreeing in writing.
