Plastic pallets for hygiene and closed-loop use
Plastic pallets suit hygiene regimes, washdown areas, closed-loop circuits and automated handling. We supply nestable, stackable and rackable models — tell us the job and we will confirm which type fits.
Typical uses
Plastic pallets earn their cost where the pallet stays inside a controlled circuit: food, pharmaceutical and cleanroom environments where the pallet is washed, automated storage and retrieval systems with tight tolerances, internal transfers between sites you control, and situations where splinters, nails or moisture absorption are unacceptable near the product.
Where a pallet leaves your control and does not come back, a one-way plastic pallet is an expensive item to lose — worth checking before you commit to plastic for open distribution flows.
Types available
Plastic pallets vary by more than footprint: solid or perforated deck, base on runners, feet or full perimeter, and nestable, stackable or rackable duty. Nestable pallets save return space but generally suit lighter duty than a heavy rackable pallet. Tell us your footprint, duty and hygiene requirement and we will match the model.
Export
Plastic is not wood packaging material, so ISPM15 treatment and marking do not apply to the pallet itself. Other packaging in the load may still be timber, so where export is in scope, confirm the whole packing arrangement, not just the pallet.
Delivery
Same-day delivery may be available for orders placed before 10am, subject to stock, vehicle availability, order size and destination, confirmed on the call. Next-day and planned delivery are also available.
Confirm before ordering plastic
- Does the pallet return to you, or is it one-way?
- Footprint required, and whether it must match existing racking.
- Nestable, stackable or rackable duty.
- Solid or perforated deck — hygiene and washdown regime.
- Load weight per pallet, and whether static, dynamic or racked.
- Quantity and delivery timing.
| Situation | Usually points to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Washdown, hygiene-controlled or cleanroom area | Plastic | The pallet can be cleaned to a defined regime and does not absorb moisture. |
| Closed loop between sites you control | Plastic | Trip count is high enough for the unit cost to be recovered. |
| Outbound distribution where pallets do not return | Timber | Loss is normal in open flows, and used timber is economic to replace. |
| Export on an uncontrolled route | Depends | Plastic avoids wood packaging rules, but the rest of the packing may not. |
What the load figures mean
- Tare weight
- The mass of the empty pallet itself, before anything is put on it. It matters for vehicle payload, air freight and weighbridge figures, not for how much the pallet can carry.
- Static load
- The maximum load the pallet is rated to hold while standing still on a solid, level surface — the pallet fully supported underneath.
- Dynamic load
- The maximum load the pallet is rated to carry while it is being handled or moved, for example on forks or a pallet truck.
- Racking load
- The maximum load the pallet is rated to hold while supported only at its edges or on beams. It often differs from static and dynamic capacity and applies only in the exact rack or support configuration stated by the manufacturer.
Ratings depend on the exact construction, how the load is distributed, how the pallet is supported, its condition and the manufacturer. A rating can never be inferred from footprint alone: two 1200 × 800 mm pallets can behave completely differently. Figures below are the named manufacturer's or standard's own published values for that exact model, reproduced for reference.

Confirm before we can quote a load figure
- Tare weight limit, where vehicle payload or air freight is tight.
- Whether you need a static, dynamic or racking figure — they are different numbers.
- Evenly distributed load or point load, and the footprint of the load on the deck.
- Support configuration: floor, beams, edge-supported racking, automation or conveyor.
- Condition required — new, repaired or used — and how many trips it must survive.
- Quantity, whether it repeats, and the delivery timing you need.
